Guided Imagery

Another Relaxation Technique You Can Add To Your Toolkit!

Guided imagery is quick, simple and effective at relieving stress. You practically just daydream!

How Do You Practice Guided Imagery?

Follow These Simple Steps:

  1. Set the Scene (or the mood) with some background music {not required but helpful when you are just starting}.
    • Check out YouTube for Relaxation Music that fits the scene you are imagining. They have one for just about everything!
  2. Get into a comfortable position.
  3. Close your eyes.
  4. Start with some deep breathing, in through your nose nice and slow and out through your mouth nice and slow.
  5. Imagine the peaceful spot you have chosen to “daydream” about.
    • Use all of your senses!
      • What do you hear?
      • What do you see?
      • What do you feel?
      • What do you taste?
      • What do you smell?
  6. You can go through these senses one at a time or experience them all at once.
  7. Be aware of everything you are feeling and just relax.
  8. Continue with your deep breathing.
  9. Take all the time you wish to bask in this special place.
  10. When you are ready, open your eyes and feel the wonderful feeling of peace and relaxation!

There’s no exact time you must stay in this daydreaming state of mind. Do what is best for you and what is most convenient at the time. For example, if at work and you need a quick stress reduction take a minute or two. If you are at home and by yourself, or laying down for bed, just let your imagination be your guide {you might just drift off to a peaceful night’s sleep}. No need for a timer!
